Highly esteemed Society!
For the diploma appointing me an honorary member - which on account of my prolonged absence from Vienna I received only a few days ago - I thank you most devotedly.
May my fervour to serve the art of music succeed in making me once fully worthy of this honour. To express my sincerest gratitude in a musical form as well I shall take the liberty of sending your worthy society within the shortest possible time the score of one of my symphonies.
With the deepest respect
A most grateful and obedient servant of this worthy society
