Stolz, Otto, * 1842© Copyright Otto Stolz, etching by A. Steininger Stolz, Otto, b. Hall in Tirol, July 3, 1842, d. Innsbruck (Tyrol), Nov. 23, 1905, mathematician. From 1860 studied in Innsbruck and Vienna, where he habilitated 1867. 1870/71 conducted studies in Berlin and Göttingen with K. Weierstraß and F. Klein. From 1872 professor at the University of Innsbruck (1890/91 Rector). Dedicated much time to algebraic geometry and analysis, taught Weierstraß' ideas concerning differential calculus and integral calculus. Publications: Vorlesungen über allg. Arithmetik, 1885/86; Grundzüge der Differential- und Integralrechnung, 2 parts., 1893/1896; Einleitung in die Functionentheorie, 21905 (with J. A. Gmeiner). Literature: H. Kaiser and W.
