Rothschild, Louis Nathaniel Freiherr vonRothschild, Baron Louis Nathaniel von, b. Vienna, March 5, 1882, d. Jamaica, Jan. 15, 1955, banker; son of Baron Albert Salomon Anselm von Rothschild. In 1929 a loan crisis ("Bodencredit-Krise") was overcome with the help of the Credit-Anstalt bank under L. N. v. R.; however, the Credit-Anstalt was badly affected by the economic recession in the early 1930s. In 1938, L. N. v. R. was arrested by the National Socialists, who extorted an enormous ransom. The history of the Austrian branch of the R. family ends with his emigration.
