Quarin, Joseph Freihrr von© Copyright Baron Joseph von Quarin, engraving Quarin, Baron Joseph von, b. Vienna, Nov. 19, 1733, d. Vienna, March 19, 1814, physician. From 1758 imperial councillor, 1784-1791 chief director of the General Hospital of Vienna which he turned into a European model hospital. From 1754 univ. prof. (6 times rector). 1788 the foundling hospital was established on his initiative. Works: Tentamen de Cicuta, 1761; Methodus medendarum febrium, 1772; Betrachtungen über die Hospitäler Wiens, 1784.
