From 1955 dramatic advisor at the Vienna Volksoper, where he introduced the musical in Europe ("Kiss me, Kate", 1956, German version by Marcel Prawy); from 1972 head dramaturge of the Vienna State Opera. From 1976-1982 professor at the Vienna Musikhochschule*; lecturer for theatrical sciences at the University of Vienna, guest lecturer at numerous American and Japanese universities. Well-known as an opera expert from numerous TV and radio programmes; friend of numerous famous singers and musicians (e.g. L. Bernstein). Honorary member of the Vienna State Opera. Works: Die Wr. Oper, 1969; Die Wr. Operette, 1970; Johann Strauß, 1975 and 1991; "Nun sei bedankt ...". Mein Richard-Wagner-Buch, 1982; M. P. erzählt aus seinem Leben, 1996.
