Mertens, FranzMertens, Franz, b. Sroda, Poland, March 20, 1840, d. Vienna, March 5, 1927, mathematician. Studied in Berlin, from 1865 professor at Kraków University, from 1884 in Graz, from 1894 at Vienna University. Specialised in analytical number theory, invariant and elimination theories.
