Leitner, Karl Gottfried Ritter* von, b. Graz, Nov. 18, 1800, d. Graz (Styria), June 20, 1890, author and publicist. 1837-1854 first Secretary to the Estates, editor of the newspaper "Stmk. Zeitschrift", 1858-1864 curator of the Joanneum, co-founded the Historical Association for Styrian Friendship with P. Rosegger; some ballads set to music by F. Schubert.


Works: Poetry: Gedichte, 1825 (21857); Herbstblumen, 1870. Erzhzg. Johann, 1860 (biography); dramatic poetry.

Literature: K. Holzeland, K. G. L. als Lyriker und Balladendichter, doctoral thesis, Vienna 1921; ÖBL.
