Tervuren Castle near Brussels (Belgium), July 4, 1780, brother of Emperor Franz I and brother-in-law of Maria Theresia, grandson of Karl V of Lorraine. From 1736 in the imperial army, 1742 commander-in-chief in Bohemia, until 1757 general, from 1744 (initially with his wife Archduchess Maria Anna) governor of the Netherlands.
