Vienna, July 5, 1884, ophthalmologist, son of Friedrich Jäger von Jaxtthal, professor at the university of Vienna. Introduced the ophthalmoscope for the determination of refractivity and contributed decisively to the study of dioptrics glaucoma and ocular anatomy. His eye operations established his world-wide reputation.
