HafnergruppeHafner Mountains, easternmost mountain range of the Hohe Tauern, between the Arlscharte mountain and the Katschberg mountain, border ridge between Carinthia and Salzburg, with Hafner (3,076 m), Lanischhafner (3,018 m) and Großer or Malteiner Sonnblick (3,030 m) mountains. The Hafner mountains are situated between the Maltatal, upper Liesertal and upper Murtal valleys. The Kölnbreinspeicher reservoir (in full use since 1978, catchment area 51.3 km2, working capacity 200 million m3, 200 m high arched dam) and the smaller Galgenbichl reservoir to its south (working capacity 4.4 million m3) are accessible via the Malta-Hochalm toll road. Katschbergtunnel (Carinthia, alt. 1,195 m, 5,439 m long) from Rennweg (Carinthia) to Höf (Salzburg). Maltatal sports hotel (alt. 1,933 m). Mountain refuges: Kattowitzer Hütte (alt. 2,321 m, Carinthia) and Rotgüldenseehütte (alt. 1,702 m, province of Salzburg).
