Habert, Johann EvangelistHabert, Johann Evangelist, b. Oberplan (Horní Planá, Czech Republic), Oct. 18, 1833, d. Gmunden, (Upper Austria), Sept. 1, 1896, teacher, church musician, organist. From 1861 organist at Gmunden; as the head of the Oberösterreichischer Cäcilienverein founded by him, strongly opposed F. Haberl's Allgemeiner Cäcilienverein and fought for the continued use of instrumental music in church services. Published the Zeitschrift für katholische Kirchenmusik (Catholic Church Music magazine)(1868-83). Literature: J. N. Moser, J. E. Habert, 1978.
