Gaisberger, JosefGaisberger, Josef, b. Maria Brunnenthal (Upper Austria), Jan. 6, 1792, d. St Florian (Upper Austria), Sept. 5, 1871, Augustinian Canon, historian, archaeologist, provided spiritual guidance and pastoral care from 1816-1818, 1818-1856 teacher at the lyceum (later grammar school) in Linz, curator of the collections of the Monastery of St Florian. A founding member of the Musealverein (museum association), and compiled the first library catalogue in 1845. From 1838 directed, inter alia, the excavations at Schlögen, Oberranna, Lauriacum (Lorch/Upper Austria, important Roman settlement) Wels and Überackern. Literature: G. Winkler, J. G. - Zum 100.
