Fried, Alfred Hermann

At first assistant in a bookshop in Berlin. Together with B. von Suttner he published the magazine "Die Waffen nieder" (renamed "Die Friedens-Warte" in 1899) from 1892-1899. Founded the German Peace Society (Deutsche Friedensgesellschaft) in 1892, devoted himself to the cause of international understanding and participated actively in the Esperanto movement. During World War I he lived and worked in Switzerland.
