Etrich, Igo© Copyright Igo Etrich, cover of his memoirs, 1962 Etrich, Igo, b. Hořejší Staré Město, Czech Republic (then Oberaltstadt), Dec. 25, 1879, d. Salzburg, Feb. 4, 1967, pioneer of aircraft construction, 1905 registered a patent for airplane wing shape and propeller, in 1907 constructed Austria's first motorised airplane, in 1909 the "E.-Taube" ("Etrich Pigeon" monoplane), and in 1911 Austria's first military airplane. His colleague Franz Wels was the first person to fly (a glider) successfully in Austria in 1906. Literature: I. E., Memoiren, 1962.
